With automotive solutions that seal out air, dust or moisture, Armacell makes a wide range of high performance foam materials that are used as gaskets by major automotive manufacturers. Found in the seals around headlights, tail lights, dashboard electronics, EV battery enclosures and electronic control modules the material helps to protect sensitive circuits. Doing double-duty to damp vibration and unwanted noise, seals are often found around doors, mirrors and sunroof openings. Because of its durability and resistance to heat, flame and chemicals, you’ll also find our material under the hood and in the firewall.

Foams that Meet Strict Automaker Standards

The automotive supply chain includes thousands of manufacturers of automobile parts developed for OEM automakers in North America and around the globe. Listed on many top automaker approved source lists, Armacell is among the suppliers whose parts meet the strict standards set by the auto industry. Armacell makes component foams that meet many ASTM, FAR, UL and auto-industry standards, including those upheld by such automakers as Ford, FCA (Chrysler), Delphi (MAHLE), GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.

Armacell's EnsoLite®, Monarch®, OleTex® along with KOEPPcell® foams are used for automotive components and meet specifications for heavy equipment and aerospace as well. Armacell foams are shipped to fabricators and converters for die cutting, stamping, thermoforming, laminating, and applying adhesive, all according to their needs for the finished product.

Monarch component foam used in automotive sealsMany of our products meet standards for:

  • Heat Resistance
  • Oil and Fuel Resistance
  • Flame Resistance
  • Chemical Resistance
  • Fungus Resistance
  • Acoustics and Noise Reduction
  • Vibration Damping

As mentioned above, rubber-based gaskets are used throughout the vehicle to seal out water, air and dust. When used with high-tech components like electronics, LEDs and metal alloys, some standard foams that contain sulfur can cause the components to corrode over time and fail. Armacell’s new peroxide-cured Monarch® series of sulfur-free EPDM foams have no sulfur added in the manufacturing process, eliminating the possibility that sulfur can out-gas and affect critical electrical systems, LED lights and circuit boards or corrode surrounding copper, silver and other metals. This sulfur-free innovation is a game-changer for automotive design.

Sulfur-free foams are recommended for:

  • LED Headlights
  • LED Taillights, Side markers, Dome/Map Lighting and Brake Lights
  • Dashboard Electronics
  • Battery Enclosures for HEV and EV
  • Electrical Enclosures
  • Electronic Control Modules (ECU/ECM)
  • Sunroof
  • Firewalls
  • Doors
  • Hoods

Everywhere you are – at work or play, home or leisure – Armacell is there with you. With solutions that conserve energy, reduce noise levels, keep food fresh or add comfort and safety. Armacell products improve the quality of life for people everywhere.
