The ArmaWin Calculator Helps Take the Guess Work Out of Sizing Insulation Correctly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Y59wm-ddsConsulting-Specifying Engineer Magazine announced that Armacell’s ArmaWin Insulation Thickness Calculator App is a Bronze Award Winner in their Product of the Year (POY) contest in the Apps for Engineers category. The magazine’s POY contest is the premier award for new products in the HVAC, fire/life safety, electrical, and plumbing systems engineering markets. The annual reader-choice program was created to provide Consulting-Specifying Engineer's readers with information about the top new product in their fields.

One of the keys to efficient mechanical system performance is using the proper type of insulation and using it in the correct size. To help you determine the right insulation thickness, Armacell developed ArmaWin, a free professional insulation thickness calculation tool.

Our technical managers are always happy to help engineers make the precise calculations to determine how much ArmaFlex is needed to prevent things like condensation or heat loss. But we know you don’t only work 8-5:00 on weekdays, so how can you get help in the off hours? To help you do just that, whether you’re in the office or on the jobsite, ArmaWin is available online, offline and as an app for your smartphone.

The online version and link to the app downloads can be found at armwin.armacell.com. The ArmaWin site is also tablet-friendly.

For calculations at the jobsite or where your laptop is not an option, you can download ArmaWin apps for iPhone and Android devices. Just go to the iTunes App Store, Google Play or Amazon Apps  & Games and search “ArmaWin.”

Are you ever working remotely with no Wi-Fi access? No worries. The offline version can be downloaded and installed to run on your desktop or laptop later, even when you are not connected to the internet.

With the ArmaWin tool you can calculate for condensation, outer surface temperature, heat loss, temperature change of flowing medium, stationary medium and freezing time.

Getting started

To get started, choose your country. The language and measurements will default to the standard for that country. For example, when you choose USA, English is set and units will set to Inch-pound and degrees Fahrenheit. Then click “start calculation.”

You’ll need to select the edit button to complete the desired sections.

The Project Information section is optional, but it’s very useful to keep track of the projects you are making calculations for, especially if you are working on different projects or different systems within a project.

Use the Calculation Options section to fill in information about the equipment (pipes, ducts or vessels)… the material (Copper, Plastic, Steel or Stainless Steel)…along with details about the material used, sizes, dimensions and the medium.

Next complete the Calculation Values, which are attributes of the project environment, like relative humidity, ambient temperature, line temperature, whether the job is indoors or outdoors, and wind speed if applicable. Now click calculate.

Running the calculation will generate a report with the recommended ArmaFlex product and thickness to do the job right. You can save this report as a PDF for your files. If you need to, you can email it to yourself, or email it to a colleague or client.

That’s it. Try the now “award-winning” ArmaWin tools and get the calculations you need quickly. But remember our insulation technical managers and application specialists are still here to help you with any questions you may have. Just contact us on the website.
