All of Armacell’s AP branded products feature Microban® Antimicrobial Product Protection
Since 2006, Armacell has manufactured foam-insulation products made with Microban® antimicrobial product protection – the first foam insulation maker to do so. AP Armaflex, Coilflex and Spiralflex™ products are engineered to be used as liners inside ventilation ducts to help prevent the growth of mold. Specifiers, building owners and contractors should choose Armacell insulation with Microban technology because of its ability to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the surface of the insulation.
This information is based upon standard laboratory tests and is provided for comparative purposes to substantiate antimicrobial activity for non-public health applications. Microban technology is not designed to protect users from disease causing microorganisms. Antimicrobial action limited to product surface.
How it works: The mechanics of clean.
Microban technology is infused into the insulation during the manufacturing process and becomes part of the molecular structure of the insulation. Thus, it works continuously to provide an added level of protection to keep the insulation cleaner for longer. Because Microban technology is built in to the product, it never washes off or wears away so the antimicrobial protection lasts for the lifetime of the insulation.
With the Microban brand you can be sure you’re getting continuous, durable and effective antimicrobial product protection that provides an added level of defense against stains and odors caused by mold and mildew.
Even Better Protection, No Extra Cost
All AP insulating products include Microban antimicrobial protection as a standard feature, at no additional cost to Armacell customers.

Microban technology provides an added level of protection against damaging mold growth to a product line that already is designed to minimize the potential for mold and mildew. Our AP duct liners meet or exceed ASTM and UL requirements for mold, fungi and bacteria resistance. The closed-cell foam structure of our material prevents the wicking of moisture — further reducing the likelihood of mold growth. In addition, the materials have always been 100% fiber-free and formaldehyde-free.
Microban Antimicrobial Protection for Lifetime of Product
With Microban antimicrobial protection, AP products offer commercial, institutional and healthcare facilities the very best mold-resistant insulation. Recognized worldwide, Microban protection cannot be washed off, nor will the protection wear off over time. It is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for all applications in which it is used.
Health hazards due to air pollutants in buildings
Insulation with Microban antimicrobial protection is the ideal long-term solution for ventilation or air-conditioning equipment in such public buildings as schools, hospitals, healthcare facilities, offices and airports, as well as the mechanical systems in the pharmaceutical or food industries. It has an ideal ratio of insulation values and optimal installation properties.

How microbes grow - Microbes 101
Did you know that on unprotected surfaces bacteria can double its numbers every 20 minutes? And only when it has multiplied to the hundreds of thousands can it actually be seen by the naked eye.
On the surface of protected insulation, the Microban® additive penetrates the cell wall of the microorganism, disabling its ability to grow and reproduce.
The protection will not wash off or wear away because it’s built in during the manufacturing process. This exclusive protection gives AP Armaflex, Coilflex and Spiralflex products an added level of defense against mold and mildew.
